Smith Galleries features the art glass of many contemporary American glassblowers. Christian Thirion has an unusual story in that he grew up in France and was trained as a professional pastry chef like his father. Life brought him to the United States in 1980 where he started a restaurant and through a set of circumstances developed an interest in glass. "If you can't stand the heat. get out of the kitchen." That's an apt saying for many people, but not for Christian Thirion. He left the kitchen and a career as a master pastry chef, for the hot shop and a new career as a glassblower.
